Dear Students and Families of Pharmacy Technician II,

I hope this letter finds you well.

Please be reminded that the Susie G Gibson Science and Technology Center is now closed through the end of the current academic year.  We miss you very much and look forward to seeing you when the current situation has concluded.

The school building is closed to students and the public.  Students should NOT continue work-based learning during the closure period, and all field trips, assemblies, club meetings, service projects, and other school activities are currently cancelled and may be rescheduled at a later date.

Any work completed during the initial closure period (March 16 - March 27) is for enrichment purposes.  This work will not be graded for the purposes of high school credit.

Seniors, we are excited for you as you finish your senior year!  However, you will need to complete the remaining chapters of the pharmacy technician curriculum - chapters 12, 13, 14, 27, 28, 29 and 30 - to ensure you have completed course content. You need to complete the associated assessments of your understanding on a pass/not yet pass basis such that I can certify that you completed your coursework, and related study materials were sent home with you.  If you have questions about your graduation status, please contact your base high school counselor. If you have questions about what topics you need to study given these circumstances, contact me directly. It is very important that you clearly understand what is necessary for your preparation for future career goals, and I am here to help you.

Please note that, regarding your PTCB credential, you must complete the remaining chapters listed above and take the practice PTCE.  This is very important if you remain interested in this credential. Please let me know your intentions about this credential test via email by April 20.  You will still receive high school course credit regardless of your decision.

Please note that our program is approved by/regulated by Virginia Board of Pharmacy and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.  At this time, we are awaiting an update from PTCB regarding testing by Pearson Vue testing centers. You will receive updated information concerning this topic via email as such is available.

As you know, our program is dual-enrolled.  Dual-enrolled students with CVCC should stay alert for related messages by email.  We are awaiting updates from CVCC regarding dual enrolled students at the time of this writing and will pass them along as soon as they are available.

Again, we also understand that you are preparing for a career about which you care deeply and want to provide you with learning resources during the closure period.  Should additional resources become available for you, I will share them with you via email. If you have technical questions about what you may need to do given your personal and professional goals, please contact me abeasley@bedford.k12.va.us. Please note, again, that work-based learning opportunities are NOT occuring during the period of school closure.

Please feel free to reach me via email.  I will be working remotely during school hours and will respond to email.  My email address is abeasley@bedford.k12.va.us; school phones are not available.  Again, as your resources allow, we encourage you to use this time to keep studying for the PTCE while observing appropriate guidance on social distancing.

Keep washing your hands, and we will hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

Angela Beasley RN, CPhT
